Temperatures in Mexicali have remained well over 46 degrees Celsius for several days, according to State Health authorities, three people have died as a consequence of heat strokes and in the Mexicali DIF shelter, more than 300 people have been served with air condition and rehydrating treatment, since their lives were endangered by the intense heat.

Mayor Gustavo Sanchez and his wife Margarita Flores de Sanchez, Mexicali DIF Family Development System President visited the shelter which is located in CREA Center in Guajardo District, and it has hosted 319 people who have arrived there seeking for shelter from the lethal heatwave that has been affecting Mexicali for almost two weeks.

Rene Rosado, Civil Protection Director of Mexicali, advised Mexicali residents not to expose to sunlight and to properly hydrate  and wear light colored clothes and be especially careful with children under three and adults over sixty five years old, who are more vulnerable to be affected by high temperatures.

The Temporal Shelter is located on Salina Cruz Street in Guajardo District and it opens at 11 AM and closes at 6 PM every day.[:es]Las temperaturas máximas en Mexicali siguen por encima de los 46 grados centígrados desde hace varios días, de acuerdo a las autoridades de Salud del estado han muerto tres personas a consecuencia del golpe de calor y en el Refugio del DIF Municipal han sido atendidas más de 300 personas cuya vida peligraba por causa del intenso calor.
El Presidente Municipal Gustavo Sánchez y su esposa Margarita Flores de Sánchez, Presidente del Sistema DIF Estatal, visitaron el albergue que se encuentra en el CREA de la Colonia Guajardo y ha recibido a 319 personas que han llegado ahí buscando refugio contra el calor de Mexicali que puede ser mortal y que podría cobrar más vidas si no existiera este refugio temporal.
EL Director de Protección Civil del Ayuntamiento, Rene Rosado, rcomendó a los mexicalenses no exponerse al sol, hidratarse adecuadamente, utilizar ropa clara y tener cuidado especial con niños menores de tres años y adultos mayores, quienes resultan más vulnerables a las altas temperaturas.
El Refugio Temporal se localiza en Calle Salina Cruz, s/n del fraccionamiento Guajardo y abre sus puertas de 11 de la mañana a 6:00 de la tarde.[:]
