Two 3 and 4 year-old girls die in Tecate fire

Tecate, Baja California.- Two little girls lost their lives after a fire broke out in the house where they were staying in the town of Tecate.

The incident took place on the afternoon of Monday, November 13, in the Municipality of Tecate and it is still unknown what caused it.

Agents of the Fire Department and Civil Protection Coordination Group of Tecate received the report of a fire by residents of the area, and went immediately to the scene to put out the fire.

Once onsite, the firefighters put out the fire, but before they managed to get the 3 and 4 year-old girls out of the house, and immediately took them to the Emergency Room of Tecate’s General Hospital. The girls arrived to the hospital unconscious.

The young victims were treated by medical personnel, who did everything possible to re-establish the girls, however it was impossible and they were both officially declared dead.

The cause of the death of the small ones was inhalation of carbon monoxide that led them to a cardiorespiratory arrest.

Meanwhile, experts of the Fire Department and Civil Protection Coordination Group of Tecate conducted the corresponding investigation to determine the causes of the fire. The case passed into the hands of the State Attorney General’s Office.

There is no information on whether the girls were alone at home or someone was with them, and it is unknown if there are any other injured people.
