Neo Lopez Obradores are PAN & PRI drop outs who are boarding Andres Manuel’s ship

ALFREDO AZCARATE VARELA THE BAJA POST/EDITOR Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is sailing cool waters, maybe he won’t be a good candidate as some people think, but people is fed up with both PRI and PAN (political parties) and Mexicans feel that the only one who can win the presidential election this year is Mr. Lopez Obrador, so everyday more and more people from all political parties join what Mr. Lopez has called “Project of a Nation”. Esteban Moctezuma and Manuel Bartlett, notorious PRI characters, German Martinez Cazares who used to introduce himself as “the Electoral lawyer for Vicente Fox”, Napoleon Gomez Urrutia, former leader of the Miners Union who has been a runaway for years and lives exiled in Canada, Gabriela Cuevas another former PAN militant and many other different characters of all colors see in Mr. Lopez a winner to which they must bet, and they are doing so. Nevertheless many people question Mr. Lopez about his income source, the most logical thing is to think that he makes a living from the million pesos budget that is delivered to MORENA (his own political party) every year. Many people think he’s a dangerous person for Mexico and that Mexico would wound up as Venezuela even as preposterous as it may sound, but one thing that can’t be denied is his taste for the cult of personality. Due to the social and political paralysis and common places of predictable political campaigns such as José Meade’s acts and statements, and the PAN members massive drop out that some think has been propelled by Ricardo Anaya’s imposition as candidate, many politicians from PAN and PRI have chosen to join the one who they feel might be able to win the election, an heterogeneous mix of political currents and ideologies, that may even become the real coalition government that Dante Delgado (Citizen’s Movement party) talks about. But there is another probability, in case Lopez won the election in July, some or all of this opportunists might be left aside from the new President’s...

How much waste does a Mexican generate in average?

How much waste does a Mexican generate in average?

Feb 21, 2018

The accumulation of solid urban waste (SUW) is a global problem and since it is a matter of environmental impact, it is crucial to start contributing to foster a better space for future generations, according to TECMED. With figures from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), TECMED detailed that the generation of solid waste reached 53.1 million tons which is 62% more than in 2003 which means that each inhabitant generates, on average, 1.2 kilograms a day, that is 438 kilograms per year. The company specializing in integrated waste management processes detailed that the amount of waste produced by the inhabitants of the cities has been increasing at high speed, as a result of throwing away materials used in domestic activities. In a statement, TECMED explained that most modern societies achieve their development without adequately controlling negative environmental impact, due to the fact that human processes and activities imply the production of a large amounts of garbage. These include urban growth, industrial development, technological changes and changes in the consumption patterns of the population, among others.   TECMED also stated that countries with more developed economies belonging to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), generate more solid waste than the rest of the world’s population. In 2010 about 44% of the SUW produced on the planet correspond to the OECD members; where Latin America and the Caribbean contributed with 12% of the total amount, just behind the countries that make up the Pacific and East Asian regions, with 21 percent. In the meanwhile data from the publication “What about waste, a global review of solid waste management” (“Qué pasa con los residuos, una revisión global del manejo de desechos sólidos”), published by the World Bank, showed in 2012 the figure of SUW was 1.3 billion tons per day, but by 2025 it could reach 2.2 billion. Nestora Salgado, from convicted kidnapper to Senate Candidate

Nestora Salgado, from convicted kidnapper to Senate Candidate

Feb 21, 2018

When Mexican leftist presidential candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he would give amnesty to criminals, many people thought it was just a campaign strategy. But the reality is that he’s already begun not only to give them amnesty, but to make them part of his den, such is the case of Nestora Salgado, who will be running for senator representing MORENA (Obrador’s political party), in this year’s election. Nestora was the coordinator of the community police in the town of Olinala, Guerrero, and was accused of having participated in at least 48 kidnappings, including those of four teenagers of 11, 12, 13 and 17 years of age, and was imprisoned for these crimes in the high security detention facility of Tepic, Nayarit. Salgado was detained on August 2013 for kidnapping and organized crime, and was released on March 2016, allegedly for lack of evidence (after almost three years in jail). And now, Nestora Salgado is looking to become one of Guerrero’s representatives in the upper house. According to www.razon.com.mx, in one of the recordings filed in the trial against Nestora Salgado, her voice can be heard threatening the father of a kidnapped girl: “This is Comandante Nestora Salgado speaking, I´m calling to tell you that in return for your daughter’s freedom you have to give me the amount of five thousand pesos. So, as soon as you hand me the money,  you get your daughter María back”. María’s father, a humble farmer of Olinala, did not have the $5,000 pesos to pay the ransom for his daughter, who was abducted at borad daylight by the then community police commander Nestora Salgado and her men. Salgado retained Maria because her family refused to “cooperate” with money to buy weapons for the community police. During her retention (according to her own testimony), Maria was awakened every day at 5 in the morning with a bucket of cold water, and taken out to work on the field all day. María declared that she was kept locked up in a construction site adapted as a prison, which they called “Paradise”, in the municipality of Ayutla de los Libres, Guerrero. According to www.razon.com.mx, all these evidences are registered in...
