Mexicali, March 15.- Mexicali municipal police detained León Fierro, one of the leaders of the active social movement Mexicali Resiste, for allegedly disturbing public order, after he made a protest demonstration duirng the 115th anniversary of the city.
The ceremony held on Wednesday March 14, at 5:30 p.m., that was attended by the mayor of Mexicali, Gustavo Sánchez, and the federal government representative Francisco Rueda Gómez, was briefly interrupted by the arrest of the activist.
After the apprehension, the spokesman for Mexicali Resiste said that León Fierro was protesting in a public area, when he was approached by police officers and then detained.
A video recording shows Fierro speaking outloud to the attendees, when municipal police agents appear on scene and arrest the man.
On the other hand, a representative of the Municipal Public Security Directorate pointed out that León Fierro was arrested for “disturbing public order”, for which reason he was taken to the police headquarters where he has not yet been released, and hislegal status is yet to be determined.
