Constellation Brands will not be investing 900 million US dollars in Mexicali

During an event of the Eleva Mexicali Forum held on Wednesday March 21 in the state capital, the local president of the Coparmex, Rodrigo Llantada Ávila informed that the brewing company Constellation Brands will not be investing 900 million US dollars in Mexicali, since they took the decision to move that part of thei investment to Ciudad Obregón, Sonora (where they already have a facility that will be expanded).

Llantada Ávila expressed that this situation is bad news for the local economy and business sector, and added that after the information was released, he received calls from other Coparmex presidents in the country, requesting him to contact the brewing company to convince them to invest in their communities.

He also explained that Constellation Brands took this decision due to the pressure of resistance groups such as Mexicali Resiste, and the proliferation of “false news” in relation with the construction of the new brewing plant.

Main reason is that social issues directly affect the value of their shares in the stock market, so they better move the additional investment to another geographic zone, whitout the influence of external situations.
