Respiratory problems increase due to poor air quality in Mexicali

With the aim of defining concrete actions to improve air quality in Baja California and particularly in Mexicali,  officials from different state and municipal agencies of Baja California organized working groups focused on Environment and Public Health , this initiative is promoted by the State Health Secretariat.

The municipality that faces the most serious problem of air pollution is Mexicali, and this year the attentions provided to the population in health centers by illnesses and respiratory infections have tripled.

“It is evident that this is going up, the contamination is hitting us badly, we are getting sick and our children are getting sick too,” said Guillermo Trejo Dozal, State Secretary of Health.

The Secretary of Health, said that air pollution is one of the situations that causes more damage to public health in Mexicali, Baja California, air contains 40% of total pollutants in the city.

In 2017, more than 300 premature deaths were recorded in the state due to complications related to poor air quality.
