Mexico’s largest media company has severed ties with a prominent journalist after he came under fire for retweeting a message seen as inciting violence against the country’s front-running presidential candidate.
Televisa’s news division said Sunday that it was ending its relationship with Ricardo Aleman effective the same day.
It also says it will cancel his program “La Mudanza” on Foro TV. Aleman has confirmed the separation via Twitter and also says Channel 11 is canceling another show he hosts, “Despertador Politico.”
Aleman says he retweeted the message as a warning about such threats, not to endorse the sentiment. He accuses front-runner Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s leftist to make him a direct target of his attacks.
