Man arrested in Mexicali carrying 100 kilos of Totoaba fish

As a result of a surveillance operation carried out by agents of the State Preventive Police (PEP) of Baja California, a total  of 229 Totoaba fish, with an approximate weight of 100 kilograms, was secured at Fraccionamiento Misión del Ángel, in Mexicali.

The bust took place on Friday May 4, with the arrest of a 25-year-old man identified as Francisco Eduardo N., who was carrying the Totoaba swim bladders in a green Mazda Protege vehicle.

Upon inspection of the car, a cooler was located in the passenger seat that contained 29 pieces of Totoaba fish, while in the rear seat officers found another cooler with 100 extra pieces of Totoaba and 100 pieces more in the car’s trunk.

The suspect was immediately detained along with the confiscated cargo and the vehicle, which were placed under custody of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), which will be responsible of determining the man’s legal status.
