Extraction of methane gas from the Mar de Cortés, a great strategic commerical project

San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora .- The possibility of extracting methane gas from the Mar de Cortés from the Wagner basin deposits, located between Puerto Peñasco and San Felipe, would bring an immense economic benefit to this northwest region of Mexico, taking advantage of the energy reform.

The vice president of Fecanaco Sonora, Álvaro Gutiérrez Esquivel, explained that the strategic project to commercially exploit large volumes of methane gas in the Sea of Cortez is currently in stand by, since the Senate of the Republic did not deliver a letter to the governments of Baja California, Sonora and Baja California Sur, inviting them, together with the Secretariat of the Navy, to coordinate the research and exploitation activities of this important hydrocarbon.

Gutiérrez Esquivel explained that Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has stopped the investment project to develop the Technological Research and Development (RTD) program for Methane Hydrates in the Upper Gulf of California.
