Tlaxcala zoo introduces its four-month-old white lion twins, the first ever born in captivity

On Thursday July 19, two white lion cubs born in March were presented to the general public for the first time at a zoo in Tlaxcala, Mexico.

The cubs, which were born at the Altiplano Zoo in Tlaxcala, which is located about two hours outside of Mexico City, are the first twin white lion cubs to be born in captivity according to government officials.

The lions were determined to be in good health before their first public showing. Although they weighed approximately a half kilogram at birth, their weight has since increased to 20 kilos.

Similarly, they have grown from 18 centimeters to 60 centimeters during the past four months.

The Altiplano Zoo presented its two newest residents to the general public: a pair of twin white lion cubs, the first twins to be born in captivity.

The zoo is constantly monitoring their weight, size, breathing, digestion and temperature.

The twins do not yet have names, but a white lion cub born last October was named after the zoo held a public naming contest.

Government officials say the zoo is becoming somewhat of a sanctuary for white lions, which are a rare mutation of the southern African lion and are considered endangered.
