Three tons of lobster seized in Ensenada

Ensenada, Baja California.- Agents of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) seized almost three tons of lobster and sea turtle meat at the military post installed on the Transpeninsular highway, near Ejido El Ajusco.

It was last September 9 when the military searched a white refrigerated truck where they found lobsters that did not have the measures allowed for their catch or transportation.

The lobster had a weight of 2,924.84 kilos distributed in 83 cardboard boxes; there were a total of five thousand 854 specimens, 5,224 of them did not meet the minimum catch size established by Nom 0059-Semarnat 2010.

In the black market, the confiscated shipment would have a value of more than one and a half million pesos.

Also, the truck transported cardboard boxes with 202.96 kilos of sea turtle meat.

This species is regulated by NOM 0059-Semarnat 2010.

According to authorities, the insured has a cost in the black market of 1,579,413 pesos.
