MEXICO CITY.- Wednesday, March 13, 2019 .. The Governor of Baja California, Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, held a working meeting with the Head of Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Alfonso Romo Garza, where they discussed priority issues for the state, mainly in terms of water resources and educational budget.
At the meeting, the Governor of the State explained the need to urgently solve the problem of water pollution in Tijuana and Playas de Rosarito, in collaboration with the US Government, since it represents a binational problem. He recalled that since last year, the present State Administration issued an emergency decree to endow extraordinary resources, in order for CESPT to carry out the works for the replacement of collectors and wastewater pumping plants, with the purpose of reinforcing the sanitation system of Tijuana and Playas de Rosarito, to address said situation.
On the other hand, the need to continue with the maintenance works and modernization of the Río Colorado-Tijuana Aqueduct (ARCT), to avoid affecting the storage volumes of water reserves and to continue to meet the population’s demand, was also addressed.
In turn, the State Governor expressed the urgency of the construction of a second module at the La Nopalera Water Treatment Plant in Tecate, as part of the actions of this Administration to ensure the long-term supply of potable water in the region.
In terms of education, the Governor of Baja California reiterated the need to expand the support of the education system in the State, and insisted on the urgency of increasing federal support to continue giving priority attention, since Baja California is the state with the highest percentage of investment in education, more than 50%.
The Governor of the State and the Head of the Office of the Presidency, agreed on the importance of continuing to work hand in hand with other sectors of the Administration, for which he requested a meeting with the business and trade union sector of Baja California, to be carried out in coming days, to strengthen joint work between both levels of government.
The Deputy Head of the Office of the Presidency, Carlos Noriega Romero, was also present at the meeting.
