Starting on August this year, no more plastic in BCS

La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). “Next August 16 the regulations that restrict the sale, facilitation and give-away of plastic bags and straws, as well as expanded polystyrene containers, for wrapping, transportation, or packaging of food and beverages in Baja California Sur will come into force”, said Secretary of Tourism, Economy and Sustainability (Setues), Luis Humberto Araiza López.

The official explained that the necessary adjustments have been made to the State Program for Comprehensive Waste Management with the aim of harmonizing it with the Law of Ecological Equilibrium and Environmental Protection in the state.

Also, it was detailed that starting on January 2019 a working group was integrated to elaborate an Ecological Technical Norm for the identification of the materials that are subject to the restriction.

“In Baja California Sur we maintain a strong commitment to the care and conservation of the environment, which is why we seek to implement the mechanisms that contribute to protecting our natural resources, in all sectors of society,” said Araiza López.

For his part, the head of Setues said he maintains a dialogue with the organizations involved in the alliance “Desplastifìcate“, as well as businessmen and authorities, not only to make the law worthwhile, but also to make actions that raise awareness among the population.
