Almost 1 million 500 thousand tests have been shipped to 120 countries by the World Health Organization, working with companies to increase the availability of tests for those most in need, the advice for all countries is that all confirmed cases, even mild cases, should be isolated in health facilities, to prevent transmission and provide adequate care.
“This is the defining global health crisis of our time, the days, weeks and months ahead will be a test of our resolve, a test of our trust in science, and a test of solidarity”, said doctor Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director General, in a web press briefing where he stressed on social distancing, isolation and testing as the key factors to deal with the epidemiologic crisis.
Mexico, as any other country, must follow the recommendations to reduce transmission risks as much as possible, “hand washing as often as possible, use alcohol based gel, sneeze into your inner elbow and avoid touching your own face . . . political commitment at the highest level in countries all over the world is decisive . . .”, he said in a public briefing on Monday, March 16.
Dr Ghebreyesus said that all confirmed cases, no matter how mild the symptoms are, should be put under observation in medical facilities, but health systems have different capacities in every country and some have no space to deal with the amount of patients, mostly the poor countries. The situation in Italy has become dramatic with more than 320 Covid19 patients died in only one day, the growth rate of the problem in the forthcoming days must be taken seriously and social distancing is not a game, it is a challenge of a sort the world had never encountered and now all together must face a threat to all the people´s health.
