President Enrique Peña Nieto will participate in the General Debate of the 70th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (U.N.) and the Summit of Heads of State and Government for the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, both to be held in New York City, Sept. 26 to 29.
Through the undersecretary of legislative liaison and political agreements of the Interior Secretariat, the president sent instructions to the Board of the Chamber of Senators that relate to his stay in New York, which explain his activities associated with the multilateral agenda of the U.N. and the bilateral agreements with the United States and other priority countries.
It was reported that Peña Nieto will also speak at the summit regarding the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which will discuss the eradication of poverty and hunger.
The Interior Secretariat noted that Mexico is a key player in defining the objectives and goals, aimed at eradicating hunger and closing inequality gaps while protecting the environment.
The president will co-chair the meeting of Global Leaders for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, within the framework of the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations.
It is expected that Peña Nieto will attend a lunch of Heads of State and Government on Climate Change, at the invitation of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, where they will discuss the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) to be held in Paris.
