The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) issued a specialized report identifying and seizing 22 swallows or swim bladders of Totoaba (Totoaba macdonaldi), in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), in the city of Mexicali, Baja California.

Derived from a surveillance operation conducted by Municipal Police agents of Mexicali, BC, the illegal fish products were found as they stop a Pick Up truck with one person on board at the site known as “Curva El Cerillo“, in the Valley of Mexicali.

As the officers searched the vehicle, they found a black backpack, containing 15 plastic bags with a total of 22 swim bladders of Totoaba marine species, shedding a weight of 10.83 kilograms.

This product is illegal and the subject was immediately detained and placed under custody of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Baja California.
