With more than 2 thousand basketball players the Mexicali 115th Anniversary Basketball Tournament was inaugurated by Mayor Gustavo Sanchez Vasquez in Mexicali, where the opening ceremony took place a sports event that will gather 2 hundred and six teams, more than 2 thousand players in female and male categories.
It was a real sports party where players from 4 years old to Veterans older than 50, where cheered by the audience from the bleachers
There was a parade where all the teams participated and players were shaking hands, one by one, with Mayor Sanchez and the special guests, so the ceremony turned into a friendly encounter among authorities and athletes.
On his welcome message, Mayor Sanchez congratulated the players for their participation and he remarked that this tournament will be an important part of the 115th Mexicali Anniversary commemoration.
During the opening ceremony, Ana Sofía Rosales Ruiz, basketball player and Mexico’s national team member represented the Basketball Mexican Federation, led the traditional sports oath where players pledge to compete with honor and respecting the rules, the first “free throw” was done by Mayor Sanchez who scored and got the audience ovation.
Among the people sitting with Mayor Sanchez were the following Council members: Ventura Campos Sandoval, Alejandro Martínez Estrada and Virginia Noriega Ríos, the Basketball Municipal League President, Luciano Tinoco Gracia; Popular Sports representative, Juan Carlos Gil González; Associated Sport representative, Roberto Quintero Mármol; Scholar Sport representative, Emilio Arrayales Millán and Mexicali Soles Sports Manager, Mario Flores.
The tournament will be played in 19 categories in the courts of: Centro Recreativo Municipal (Municipal Recreational Center), Ciudad Deportiva (Sports City), Elías Carranco court in Baja California Autonomous University, Cueva de los Vikingos (Vikings Cave), Preparatoria 16 de Septiembre (September 16th High School, Benuff, and will end the 30th of June.
