La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). This weekend, the discovery of a paddle fish (pez remo) in La Paz Coromuel beach, went viral on social networks; This would not be the first occasion in which one of these stranded creatures appear on southern Baja California beaches.
The paddle fish lives 500 meters deep and due to temperature changes, it causes the specimen to swim to the surface, where it usually dies. However, superstitions suggest that this phenomenon precedes seismic movements.
In previous years, the stranding of this species was recorded in beaches of La Paz and Mulegé, 2 of them in 2014 and another one in 2015; at the time, the presence of these specimens caused great commotion among the inhabitants of Baja California Sur.
